From The Principal

Ms Helen Carne
Dear Parent and Carers,
Welcome to Term 2, Week 8 newsletter.
Congratulations to Ms Nancy Grainger on achieving her successful attainment of Highly Accomplished Teacher (HAT) certification by the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT). This recognition reflects Nancy’s deep commitment to student learning and her outstanding contributions to professional learning across our school community. The amazing positive feedback Nancy and our school has received since this information was released is truly inspiring! Thank you to every person who posted feedback – this is why we teach!
Facilities Master Planning
Tully SHS is engaging TPG Architects to develop a Facilities Master Plan. The Master Plan is a long-term strategy document that will shape the future development of the school over the next 10+ years. The school needs will be captured, identifying short, medium and long-term construction projects.
A parent and community workshop will be held on Wednesday 18 June from 4.30pm in the Millside Café. We strongly encourage representatives of the various users of our school facilities to attend this meeting to provide your input.
Trivia Night
Congratulations to our Student Leadership Team (SLT) for organising a Trivia Night for this Saturday night. Over 20 teams have registered so the evening is shaping up to be hotly contested! Thank you once again to the community and businesses who have made donations as prizes.
May the best team win!
Staff Changes
At the end of this term, Mr Phil Bell will be finishing at Tully SHS and returning south for family reasons. We wish him all the very best.
Teaching and Learning
At Tully SHS, we encourage all students to develop a growth mindset. As part of our teaching strategies – ‘providing feedback that moves learners forward’, it is important that:
- Teachers stress that ‘smart’ is not something you get: it’s down to you and you can do something about it
- Students engage with multiple forms of feedback as appropriate
- Feedback provided to the student is understandable, helpful and actionable.
Therefore, as the end of term approaches, it is critical that students be here every day and complete every assessment/exam to the very best of their ability. It is one thing to show up but we expect: show up, do your work and complete all assessment! This is our core business.
School Fees
Thank you to all parents and carers who have already paid their student fees, your support is greatly appreciated. Student fee invoices for 2025 were issued in Term 1, and full payment or a payment plan is required by the end of this term.
Students with outstanding fees will be restricted from participating in extracurricular activities including sporting events, camps and excursions. Further, limiting class resources may be required.
Payment plans are encouraged or if you have any issues or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact the me for a confidential discussion.
Community Support
We have noticed a recent trend of students wanting to sign out and go up town. From the school end, we will not authorise for students to leave without a parent/carer collecting the student for an authorised reason.
We encourage all businesses in our wonderful community to not serve our students during the hours of 9am – 3pm if they are wearing a Tully SHS school uniform! When we have these agreed expectations, we are working together to reduce students unnecessarily leaving the school grounds.
We greatly appreciate your cooperation with this expectation!
Have an awesome fortnight and all the best to our students representing our school in the various events planned.
Yours in learning,
Ms Helen Carne
Principal
Congratulations
Congratulations to all of our soloists who performed at Innisfail Young Performers.
All students played musically and with conviction. Well done to Year 7 student, Grace McLaughlin, who received a second place for her rendition of Scoobie Du Wup.
Another great day of music for our students!!

ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
The Athletics Carnival is on Tuesday Week 10 – 24 June. The theme is Aussie icons – come dressed up as an Aussie icon – House colour inspired.
Students do not need permission to participate in the carnival; however, student DO need permission for Discus & High Jump (flop technique) events. A permission note is now available on QParents. Students can collect paper copies from the HPE staffroom if required.
This year the carnival will have a reduced track program due to the grass still growing. There will only be 100m & end-to-end relays. Discus and Triple Jump are usually pre-carnival events. This year, these events will be held during the carnival day.

District Sport Trials
Students must see Mrs Parkes in the HPE staffroom to nominate for the following sports:
13-14 & 15-16 Futsal

Step four, can be done either online or using the QParents app. You will need to request access to view your child's information. You will need to know your child's EQID to do this. You can find the EQ ID on your child’s ID card, report cards, OneSchool or school invoices. It consists of 10 numbers and one letter. The school can also provide this number if needed. After completing these steps, your request to create a QParents account will be sent to your child's school for final approval.
