From The Principal

Ms  Helen Carne

Dear Parent and Carers,

Welcome to Term 2, Week 6 Newsletter. Thank you to our school community for encouraging and supporting our students to achieve success every day!

Congratulations to Jarrod V, Shila C, Kaya C, Emily P and Elliot F on being announced as finalists for the Ecoman Competition in Cairns last week.  The students and their parents will be invited to attend the Business Liaison Association (BLA) Awards Evening in November.  Thank you, Mr Jarred Rohl, for supporting the students.

A massive thank you to our local employers who are offering to support our Year 10 students with Work Experience for Week 10 of this term.

Year 11 Camp

Great work to our Year 11 students who have thoroughly enjoyed their camp.  A massive thank you to Kyrra Johannsen-Weston for leading the organisation and to the supervising staff who attended and supported our students.  These extra-curricular events make lifelong memories for students and can only occur when staff are willing to devote their personal and family time.  Great work to our staff and Year 11 students.

Year 6 into 7 Transition

Our first Year 6 into 7 transition evening occurred on Monday evening this week. A huge thank you to our parents and students who attended and to Rachelle Paton and Ang Bevan for the organisation.  We had a massive turnout and it pleases us greatly that all families in our Cluster are planning to enrol at Tully State High School. Our school and community is so much richer when local families believe in and support their local school!

Enrolment forms are available from the school office and will be delivered to our Cluster schools.  We encourage all families in our Cluster to support our wonderful school.

No New Learning Day

Thank you to our school community for supporting our No New Learning Day to allow our teachers to work in their teaching teams to plan their units of work through the process of moderation.

Facilities Master Planning

Tully SHS is engaging TPG Architects to develop a Facilities Master Plan.  The Master Plan is a long-term strategy document that will shape the future development of the school over the next 10+ years.  The school needs will be captured, identifying short, medium and long-term construction projects.

A parent and community workshop will be held on Wednesday 18 June from 4.30pm in the MPC meeting room.  We encourage representatives of the various users of our school facilities to attend this meeting to provide their input.

Facilities such as a large undercover area for Netball and an Agricultural Precinct are just two proposals that are necessary for our community.  Please come along and have your input into this critical planning.

Tuckshop Upgrade

The contractor has been awarded for the Tuckshop.  Osborne Constructions have completed many tuckshop upgrades around the region.  A massive thank you to the P and C Association for contributing over $105000 to support this project!

National Reconciliation Week (NRW)

National Reconciliation Week is an annual observance from 27 May to 3 June. It is a time for all Australians to reflect on Indigenous histories, cultures and achievements and to consider how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation. As a school, we will recognise National Reconciliation Week on our full school parade on Monday.

Have an awesome fortnight and all the best to our students representing our school in the various events planned.

Yours in learning,
Ms Helen Carne
Principal

Sports News

Congratulations to:

  • Liam Q on selection as a shadow in the Peninsula 14-15 Boys Rugby Union Team.
  • Sophia H, Lacey H, Layla M, Mia M, Darcy A, Chase C & Jonah W on selection in the 10-12 Years Cassowary Coast Touch Football Team

ATHLETICS CARNIVAL

The Athletics Carnival is on Tuesday 24 June, Week 10.

Students do not need permission to participate in the Carnival; however, students DO need permission for discus & high jump (flop technique) events.  A permission note is now available on QParents.  Students can collect paper copies from the HPE staffroom if required.

Students will need to attend a lunchtime competency session to be signed off by a HPE teacher for both flop high jump and spin discus techniques.  This session will be on Thursday 5th June.

This year the carnival will have a reduced track program, with only 100m & end to end relays.  Discus and triple jump are usually pre-carnival events.  Due to the reduced track program, these events will be held during the carnival day.

The 1500m event will be run during 1st break Friday 6th June.  Students need to meet on the oval.

District Sport Trials

Students must see Mrs Parkes in the HPE staffroom to nominate for the following sports:

10-12 Cricket (boys), Softball (girls), Tennis (boys & girls)

12-14 Baseball (boys & girls)

13-14 & 15-16 Futsal

Books of Tomorrow

Do you have any books suitable for children lying around, no longer being read? Books of Tomorrow is a charity in the Philippines that collects and distributes books for children. You may have noticed that quite a few of our cleaners are Filipinas: it is one of their daughters who is the Ambassador for this charity. The SLT wants to help by collecting any children's books that have been gathering dust on your shelves and donating them to this worthy cause. If you would like to give the children one or two or more of your books, please bring them to eLearning any time. We have already begun receiving some - lets 's break a few records!

QParents - How to register

Creating a QParents account requires you to complete a 4-step registration process.

    1.Enter the invitation code

You must receive an invitation letter or email with your unique invitation code before you can complete this step. If you have not received an invitation letter or email, please contact the school via phone on (07) 4068 4555 or via email at info@tullyshs.eq.edu.au. To enter your code and get started, click register your interest at https://qparents.qld.edu.au/#/landing.

    2. Verify your identity

Select next and after accepting the terms and conditions of use of QParents, you will be required to verify your identity by completing an online 100 point identification check using documents including Australian Passport, drivers license, birth or marriage certificate or Medicare card.

    3. Create a QParents account

You will be required to create a QParents account using an email address as your account name. That email address will need to be confirmed before your account will be activated. You may, optionally, also provide a mobile number which will be used by QParents to verify your identity (e.g. send you an SMS code to enter into QParents).

    4. Add your child

Step four, can be done either online or using the QParents app. You will need to request access to view your child's information. You will need to know your child's EQID to do this. You can find the EQ ID on your child’s ID card, report cards, OneSchool or school invoices. It consists of 10 numbers and one letter. The school can also provide this number if needed. After completing these steps, your request to create a QParents account will be sent to your child's school for final approval.

Why do you need a QParents Account?

QParents allows parents to connect instantly with their child’s school to access and manage their child’s student information, including:

  • Attendance and absence details, as well as the ability to notify the school of an absence
  • Behaviour information
  • Academic report cards
  • Providing consent for excursions and online services
  • Viewing unpaid invoice details, payment history, and making payments online
  • Viewing and updating student details, including medical conditions and address
  • Enrolment details
  • Parents can view or update their child’s details without having to contact the school
  • Available anytime, anywhere!

Uniforms Wanted!

Do you have any pre-loved school uniforms hanging around unloved and unused?

Please donate them to our school.

We have students who would be grateful for a spare set, and then there are also those unfortunate emergencies...
