Year 12 Formal
The Year 12 Formal is planned for next Thursday evening. Arrivals are scheduled from 5.30pm, with the reception commencing at 6.45pm. We encourage our school community to come along and cheer on our arrivals.
(Our Week 10 Newsletter will be featuring all of the Year 12 Formal photos and arrivals).
Staffing Update
All the very best to Warren Giffin, who commenced leave last week. Warren is on extended leave for the rest of year and into next year.
Congratulations to Sarah Cronin, who is taking on a position at Kennedy State School as Community Partnerships Officer for the next 18 months.
Assessment
With only two weeks to the end of term, students should be busily preparing for their exams and finishing assessment tasks. Making every day count is critical! If students are having trouble or are concerned about an assessment, they must seek help from their class teacher.
Yours in learning,
Ms Helen Carne
Principal
Congratulations
Congratulations to Imogen Scott and Jesse Lund for being selected to attend Griffith University's FNQ State Honours Ensemble Program in Cairns recently. It was an awesome experience where these two musicians had the opportunity to work with other like-minded and highly accomplished players in a band setting.
Well done to be selected for this prestigious event!
SLT News
The Student Leadership Team has been very active in the last couple of weeks, working to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation, and helping Dylan Crema travel to the World CrossFit Games in Texas. A core group also participated in a workshop with representatives from the Cassowary Coast Regional Council.
Students responded generously to ex-student Dylan’s appeal, dressing up as Super Heroes in acknowledgment of Dylan’s avatar, Spiderman: gold coin donations totalled $400.00.
As for the World’s Greatest Shave, the final total of all donations was an impressive $3,800.00, with $2,200 of that amount coming from the fantastic efforts of Maddy Jenkins, who, along with friends Ayla Steinke and Addison Wells donated her long plaits as well. Well done, girls! Teacher Blair Mortimer ditched his hair for a close buzz-cut, and overshot his goal of $500 by $150.00. All participants were pleased with their new hairstyles, thanks to the professional ministrations of the talented Teacher Aide Laurice McGowan, with help from Heather Cousens (Admin) and Teacher Aide Carrie-Anne Gleeson.
In amidst all this activity, key members also met with officers from the CCRC who were keen to solicit suggestions about potential youth-focussed activities the Council could institute. They were impressed with the sophistication of the ensuing discussions. Knowing that these initiatives so easily exhaust themselves, we plan to develop this further in the coming months.
The next SLT meeting in Week 9 will be the last one for the Year 12 leaders of 2024, who will be replaced by the successful candidates among Year 11 students, whose election is imminent. This 2024 team has achieved an amazing amount beyond raising funds for important charities: they have boosted student morale; represented the student body at workshops and public events; highlighted issues of student concern and effected changes, and served as admirable role models for other students. Younger members of the team will advance to the 2024-2025 SLT, where their experience and commitment will be invaluable.

Zoe participated as a student coach, demonstrating a high level of commitment and professionalism in the role. Several opportunities in coaching and officiating roles are available to all students. Make sure you get involved in 2025 if this is an avenue you wish to pursue. Year 7 student, Mackenzie Law, was in the team.
Congratulations on your success girls!
Pupcakes for Paws’n’Claws
The Student Leadership Teams most recent fund raiser – baking and selling cupcakes for the Cassowary Coast Animal Refuge – also marked the last concerted effort by the Senior leaders, who are now turning their full attention to their final exams. The new team will be launched during Week 1 of Term 4.
The photos below give some indication of the wonderful array of delicious cupcakes donated by both SLT members and other students. The day’s takings totalled close to $500, an amount that will certainly help support the caring work of Paws’n’Claws.
